Our No.5 Blast Furnace is expected to reach the end of its life sometime between 2026-30, and the relining of the No.6 Blast Furnace is critical in ensuring the future of steelmaking in the Illawarra region.

No. 6 Blast Furnace Reline Project

Project update

Current state: The project is currently in the Construction phase, and will remain in this phase until preparing for plant commissioning.

  • The lead contractors are established at site, and the removal of old equipment is well underway.
  • The main focus at this stage is delivering the engineering and procurement packages.

Milestones

  • DPE approval received 20 September 2022.
  • Board Approval for execution announced 21 August 2023.
  • The project moved into the Construction Phase in September 2023.
  • Execution of the project commenced in January 2024.
