Charles Hoskins had the vision to grow the steel industry in Australia and relocate his Lithgow Works to Port Kembla in the 1920s. He did not live to realise his dream, but was survived by two of his sons, Cecil and Sid, who became joint Managing Directors of the steelworks when production began in 1928.
In 2018, many of his descendants came to visit their family's legacy. 90 year-old Alison Hayward (daughter of Sid) and around 40 of her descendants of relatives made the trip from all around the country to tour the steelworks. Alison remembers her days growing up around the area fondly - particularly the fact that there was not much infrastructure and all the children used to get around on their horses and ponies!
