Community engagement

At BlueScope our local communities are our homes. We care for the environment, create wealth, respect local values, and encourage involvement. Our strength is in choosing to do what’s right.

Around 30 initiatives are supported annually

Each year, BlueScope Western Port sponsors and donates funds, and our people volunteer their time to the local community. We are focused on supporting safety, environment, diversity, mental health and wellbeing, young people, and educational activities.

In financial year 2024, BlueScope Western Port contributed $50,000 to the local community via our sponsorship and donation program, plus provided our facilities to Mornington Peninsula organisations and charities at no cost.

Our employees also donate their own funds via our Workplace Giving Program. With their donations, the Point Leo Surf Life Saving Club purchased a side-by-side vehicle and funding went towards The Den Youth Program.

If your local community group wants to apply for a sponsorship and donation, please read our sponsorship and donation guidelines before completing the application form.

BlueScope Western Port Supports Hastings SES with Tech Upgrade

BlueScope Western Port has generously donated nearly $5,000 to the Hastings State Emergency Service (SES), enabling the purchase of four iPads to be installed in their emergency response vehicles. This contribution marks a significant step forward in modernising the unit’s operations and improving emergency response capabilities across the northern Mornington Peninsula.

ProjectJ

Supporting Projex J’s Mission of Healing and Connection

BlueScope is proud to support Projex J in its journey to becoming a registered not-for-profit organisation in FY24, and to offer our ongoing support through FY25 and FY26. Our contributions have helped Projex J expand its reach and deliver vital grief support services to individuals and families navigating loss across the community. These initiatives provide safe spaces for healing, connection, and hope - ensuring no one faces grief alone.

Community liaison committee meeting minutes

The bi-annual Community Liaison Committee meetings have a long history starting back when the plant first became operational in the 1970s. The Committee aims to provide an opportunity to discuss and get feedback on topics such as the environment, employment opportunities and community activities.
